Day by day route plan
Our route South is carefully planned to avoid busy A roads (although this is not always possible) by following much of the Sustrans cycle network (starred days on the plan). We plan to cycle approximately 40 to 50 miles each day.
We have also decided to incorporate rest days and to start earlier than planned with a 6 day stint in Northern Scotland. Although this means that the journey is not a continuous one, it feels like a more sensible option for two people embarking on a somewhat unknown challenge.
Join us for the Taunton to Exeter leg
We would be delighted if you would like to join us for some or all of the 41 mile leg from Taunton to Exeter on Saturday 18 August. The plan is to meet at King's College, in the front square, leaving at 9.00am. We will then cycle approximately 10 miles to Wellington, stopping for a mid-morning coffee at Braziers (TA21 0AW) between 10.15am and 10.45am. The journey continues on to Sampford Peverell (approximately another 10 miles) for lunch at 12.15am in the Sampford Peverell play park (please bring your own picnic), followed by a drink at The Globe (EX16 7BJ). From Sampford, we will cycle on through Willand, Cullompton, past Killerton and finally into Exeter, finishing at the Quay. The second half of the day is approximately 20 miles and features a steep(ish) climb out of Cullompton towards Bradninch. We would hope to be arriving in Exeter by 4pm at the latest, but timings may vary during the day.
Please let Jonty know if you would like to join us for some or all of the day.
