Day Three: The most isolated pub in Scotland

Syre to Bonar Bridge: 43.93 miles; Total so far: 109.86 miles.

A wonderful day of three parts. The first 12 miles rose gently from Syre, initially along the River Naver, before skirting Loch Naver to Altnaharra. It was a tranquil and stunning start to the day. We met Heidi in Altnaharra (she had cycled from the Crask Inn) and started part two: the 8 mile climb to the most isolated pub in Scotland. The relentless climb, dodging occasional cars, motorbikes and two 'cheats' with battery powered bikes, was tough and pushed Izzy to the limits, but she responded with true grit, digging deep to reach the summit. We enjoyed the hospitality of the Inn before starting the third section: the 24 miles down to Bonar Bridge, via Lairg. Izzy initiated games of eye-spy (which became increasingly obscure: 'cool condensation clouds' being one!) and various guess the quote from TV shows games (Izzy: which Daddy was rubbish at!). She also happened to see a blue jacket by the road and, correctly convinced that it was Caro Snell's, took it with us. Arriving at Bonar Bridge was a welcome end to a tiring day full of wonderful landscapes and views. Tonight we are in an AirBnB, which meant home-cooked front of Love Island!!
