Day Eight: Crossing the Firth of Forth

Glenfarg to Penicuik; 45.21 miles. Total: 337.7 miles

After the trials of the hill to Glenfarg we decided to find the flattest route today. In doing this, we stopped to check the map in Kinross and were kindly helped by a local who extolled the virtue of our original route. His comment that it included a 'beast of a wee hill' quickly cemented the decision to skirt around it and head on to Edinburgh. The major challenge remaining was therefore the 2km span of the Firth Road Bridge; not something that Izzy was looking forward to at all! In the end it was stunning, and we then headed into central Edinburgh and the fervour of the first day of the festival. People everywhere.....road closures.....entertainment at every corner.....it would be fun to come back one day when we're not in the middle of a 1000 mile cycle ride! We headed out towards Penicuik in the knowledge that Heidi and Martha were picking up Uncle Nick from the station before catching up with us. The final few miles were tough but considerably shortened the route for tomorrow and we have then enjoyed a fun evening with our new arrival, ready for the climb to Moffat tomorrow.
