Day Five: Daddy takes a detour!

Updated: Jul 20, 2018

Inverness to Kincraig; distance today - 45 miles; Total distance: 199 miles

Five hours of cycling took us from sea level in Inverness to over 1300ft at Slochd summit and then on into Aviemore. The first hour went well, as we negotiated our way out of Inverness but then a mistake in map reading (I'm only a geography teacher!) meant we took a 6 mile detour to the A9 and back. Izzy took this news pretty well and then took the mickey out of me for it for the rest of the day. Apparently she is map-reading tomorrow! Once back on track we continued our ascent into the mountains, passing through Moy and Tomatin with evermore bizarre games of eye-spy, before meeting Heidi just before the Slochd summit. The climbing had been long and tiring but the reward was a downhill second half of the day. We stopped briefly in Carrbridge to admire the packhorse bridge (built in 1717) and then continued through Aviemore before finishing in Kincraig. This has left us 50 miles to Pitlochry tomorrow, but as much of it is downhill it should be fine.
